Swanage Railway Carriage & Wagon
Split over two teams based at Corfe Castle & Swanage stations, our dedicated teams work on restoring heritage passenger coaches and freight wagons to their former glories.
Carriage and Wagon
Working in two teams, once based at the Good Shed in Swanage station and the other at Corfe Castle station our two carriage & wagon teams work on both passenger coaches and freight wagons from the steam era, with the aim of restoring them back to their former glory to enable them to be used on the railway once again.
No previous experience is needed, simply a willingness to help and to get involved. Currently the teams meet on Saturdays, Sundays and Thursdays.
The role would be ideal for somebody who enjoys DIY, specially working with wood, and who has a keen eye for detail , very important when restoring with as many of the original features as possible.
Useful Information
Currently meeting on Saturdays (in Swanage) and Sundays and Thursdays (in Corfe Castle) our Carriage and Wagon restorations teams are a great way to get involved if your time is limited or need to be as flexible as possible.
Is this role for me? The work is mostly indoor although can be moved outside if the weather allows. It is not, for the most part, physically strenuous, but due to the locations would not suit anybody with mobility issues as accessibility is limited.
